When you're ever in the neighbourhood of northeastern France, I highly recommend you take a detour to visit Nancy. Having visited on a warm, sunny summer day, it is a perfect city to take long strolls in. When the heat from the sun gets a little too much, just visit one of the many churches or museums, such as the Musée Historique Lorrain, which has a great collection of paintings and owns a gorgeous chapel next to the museum with gorgeous red leaded lights and handcrafted ceiling that you can visit as well. Get your morning coffee at one of the very affordable and picturesque french cafés overlooking the Basilique, and get immersed in the divine white interiors of the Nancy cathedral. We were lucky enough to visit on the second to last day of an exhibition on the history of the city in the Palais du Gouvernement, which is a stunning building inside and out.
